What we do
The Tulane Cheerleaders are a dedicated
group of young men and women who can be
seen at every home (and most away!)
Tulane football and basketball games. We do
both co-ed and all-girl
style stunting and place an emphasis on good attitudes
and superior talent.
We also represent Tulane at alumni events and
fundraisers, where we
have had the opportunity to meet many of the interesting
people affiliated
with the university, including Mignon Faget, Lindy Boggs, and
rapper Andre
3000 of Outkast. Ultimately, the things that make our squad great
are a
commitment to clean collegiate cheerleading and the strong friendships
we
form from year to year.
Tryouts
The Tulane Cheerleaders hold tryouts for the squad three times per year--at the end of the spring semester, at the beginning of the fall semester, and either at the end of the fall semester or beginning of the spring semester. The next tryouts for the squad will be in December 2006 or January 2007. To try out for the squad, we prefer that you appear in person, but we also accept video submissions for those who are unable to come to New Orleans for the tryout. If you choose to send a video, it should include a cheer of your choice, two chants, and any stunting (all-girl or co-ed) or tumbling you have. A short (about 4 eight-counts) dance would be a nice addition, but is not necessary.
Our baseline requirements for stunting are:
toss hands, extension, lib, and a willingness to work on skills such as cupies,
heel stretches, walk-ins and baskets for co-ed, and prep, extension, lib, and
willingness to work more advanced stunts for all-girl (at any
position). We do not have strict tumbling requirements, although we prefer a standing
back handspring (or a willingness to learn one). Running tumbling is considered
a huge asset.
Other than that, we look for clean motions and a good attitude. We are a
closely-knit squad, but we love welcoming in new members. Good luck on your
decision to attend Tulane or whichever university suits you, and feel free to
let us know if we can help you further (see Contact Us page for contact
information).
