Description: This video depicts the hard lives of impoverished Brazilians in the country's northeast region. Politicians in Brazil overwhelm these people with promises before elections, and then leave them to literally strave to death. We see President Collor de Melo (who was later impeached) captializing on his northeastern background by campaigning in the drought-stricken sertao, making false promises and giving rice to the straving population. The tape illustrates the hypocrisy of the government for ignoring the real needs of the people, paying lip service to them only at election time.

Description: Using non-professional actors, this film traces the devastating descent of a young peasant boy into Lima's vast community of street children. Unable to make a living in the countryside, Gregorio's father, Jacinto, moves his family to Lima. Soon after they arrive he loses his job and the family is forced to live in a squattes' camp two hours from Lima. Gradually, young Gregorio learns the life of the streets and joins a gang of petty thieves. Throughout the film, Gregorio narrates his experiences, expressing sorrow but no particular conviction that anything could change.
