Become a Visitor Speaker

Any graduate or undergraduate student who is a part of Latin American Studies or any of its affiliated departments can volunteer to go into local classrooms and give presentations on the Latin American topics they are most comfortable with.  It is a unique opportunity for students to practice their teaching skills while serving local community centers, private and public schools.

Past topics range from broad discussions of Brazilian culture and African influences in Latin America to more specific presentations on the Day of the Dead in Mexico and Merengue in the DR.  In addition to just your expertise, simple items of material culture (coins, textiles, pictures, video) from the country, region, or tradition your topic is centered in, will greatly enhance the experience for students.

To participate, please fill out the Volunteer Interest Form at least four weeks in advance of your preferred presentation date and we will then advertise your interests at the beginning of the semester to our large constituency of local teachers and community organizations.
