Coordinated
Instrumentation Facility
The
Coordinated
Instrumentation Facility (CIF) is a university-wide department operating
under the Office of Research for the management of shared research equipment.
The CIF laboratory personnel maintain the equipment and assist researchers with
method development and data collection. They also train students and
researchers in the use of the shared equipment. By having trained professionals
that are responsible for its day-to-day operation, the CIF and end-users are
ensured that instrumentation is being well maintained, necessary supplies are
on hand, and consistently reliable data are being generated. The CIF also
provides electronics service support for the university's scientific equipment.
Their service engineering staff has a broad background and can assist with
applications troubles. Contact: 865-5142 or dgrimm@tulane.edu .
Center for Gene Therapy Core Facilities
The
Center for Gene Therapy core laboratories have been
established with funds provided by Tulane University Health Sciences Center,
HCA, the Health Care Company and Louisiana Gene Therapy Research Consortium,
Inc. The Center would like to make the services available to all scientists
supported by the Consortium and to all academic scientists in this geographic
region. For some of the services of the Core, the Center of necessity must make
a charge. For others, there will be no charge for either uses or special
situations in which scientists need preliminary data for grant applications.

Shared Instrumentation Facility for Molecular Biology
Research (Biochemistry, TUHSC)
The
Shared Instrumentation Facility for
Molecular Biology Research (SIF-MBR), is a state-of-the-art core facility
that offers access to instrumentation and technical services for the conduct of
a variety of investigations in the basic molecular biosciences. The facility is
housed in four major modules in the Biochemistry Department, on the sixth floor
of the Burthe - Cottam Building of the Med School of the Health Sciences
Center. A listing of the equipment and services provided in the SIF-MBR is
included at this web site. For additional information or specific needs please
contact Christopher Shatley, Laboratory Research Tech (SIF-Manager).
Christopher can either assist you directly or refer you to someone who will. If
you wish to recommend additions to SIF equipment holdings and services, please
send your suggestions in writing to J.D. Karam, Department of Biochemistry,
SL-43. Contact: 585-7165 or biosif@tulane.edu
Computational Sciences Center
The
Livingston Digital Millennium Center for
Computational Science at Tulane and Xavier Universities is the first Center
established in the Gulf region to focus on computational science research
projects across many disciplines. The Center provides an infrastructure for
investigators interested in computational science to exchange ideas, produce
research and establish new collaborations. The initial phase to establish the
Center was made possible through funds from the U.S. Department of Energy and
Tulane University. The Center, with 2 permanent staff members and four
postdoctoral researchers, began operations at Tulane University in June 2001.
Ten Tulane faculty and several Xavier faculty are involved in the Center, which
also runs a seminar series with local and outside speakers. Contact: (504)
862-8391 or ccs@tulane.edu.
