The General Counsel's office is pleased to offer notary services to faculty,
staff and students. The Uptown General Counsel's Office is located in
Suite 300, Gibson Hall and the notary's hours are 9 a.m. to noon
Monday thru Friday. The following information is presented to help you
take advantage of this service.
GENERAL: The notary's function is to administer an oath. When you sign a document and have it notarized, you are stating under oath and under penalty of perjury that all statements in the document are true and correct. Accordingly, it is essential that the person signing the document be physically present and sign the document in the notary's presence. You should be prepared to produce your Tulane University identification card and a valid driver's license.
COPIES: The General Counsel's Office will not notarize copies of documents. A notary cannot make official or certify copies of a government document such as a birth certificate; these documents must be obtained from the appropriate government agency. Certified copies of Tulane documents such as diplomas or transcripts must requested through Registrar's Office.
The General Counsel's Office will not pass acts of sales, mortgages, wills, trusts or other acts that require recordation or administration. You may call the notary if there are any questions concerning a particular document that requires notarization.
