PERSONAL INFORMATION

Present Position: Professor and Director, Tulane University Herbarium.

Academic Degrees: B. A. (Botany), Drew University (1971); Ph. D. (Botany), University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1976).

Professional Research Interests: Flowering plant evolution and classification; botany of Pacific Island plants; plant phylogenetics and biogeography; flora of the southeastern United States and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.

Other Professional Interests: Economic plants and ethnobotany; Charles Darwin and the history of evolutionary biology; botanical exploration and illustration; history of arboreta, botanical gardens, and herbaria; biological nomenclature.

Teaching Interests: General biology and botany; plant systematics; economic botany; history and philosophy of biology; evolutionary biology; field botany.
