OEA's current efforts to green Tulane's campus |

Energy & Climate Change
In 2001, we completed a Greenhouse
Gas Inventory for the uptown campus, calculating the
impact our campus activities have on global climate change.
Since then, energy system improvements and student-led education
campaigns have held the climate impact of uptown campus
buildings below 2000 levels. We are working on continued
reductions in Tulane's climate impact by assisting educational
programs, supporting the implementation of LEED Green Building
certification on campus, identifying and analyzing actions
that reduce emissions, and documenting the climate impact
of service activities.
Recycling
Tulane Recycling handles paper, cardboard, plastic bottles,
aluminum cans and computers, and provides service in the
Tulane residence halls for donations during move-out. We
assist the campus recycling program with education, special
events, and the development of new programs. Visit recycle.tulane.edu
for campus recycling guidelines.
Sustainable Transportation
We are working to make it easier to use public transit and safer
to ride your bike around New Orleans. Tulane students have worked
as consultants on the New Orleans Regional Master Plan and received
national grants to develop university bicycle safety education programs.
Past projects also include a student-produced guide to "New Orleans
Without a Car" and the Unlimited Access transit pass proposal. For
information on bicycle programs, visit Bike.Tulane.edu
Environmental Information and Education
Green.Tulane.edu
provides a one-click guide to Tulane's environmental programs
and people. We maintain data on the university's environmental
performance. The "Environmental Literacy" TIDE
and "Down & Dirty in the Big Easy," the environmental
track of NOLA pre-orientation, expand environmental education
opportunities in and out of the classroom. |
