| Tulane University computers can be
recycled through the Property Management Office. The computers
are logged out and are first made available to other Tulane
offices. Computers that cannot be re-used on campus are
recycled by the Capital
Area Corporate Recycling Council, a Baton Rouge non-profit
that distributes many to schools. If you have sensitive
financial, patient-records, or student-records data on your
computer, please contact the Tulane Help Desk at 862-8888
to schedule someone to remove the information from the computer
before it is recycled.
Uptown Campus
On the uptown campus, Tulane Recycling provides pick-up
service for computer recycling to uptown campus offices.
Two days a month, recycling staff will pick up computers
from offices that have placed requests in advance through
the Servicewave.Tulane.edu website. To request a pick up
of computers for recycling, visit the Servicewave.Tulane.edu
web site and complete a work request. In the request box
write "Recycle Computers" and indicate the number
and type of computers and peripherals to be picked up. You
will receive an email indicating that your service request
has been accepted. Recycling staff will call you one or
two days in advance of your pickup. Please note that it
may take several weeks for your equipment to be picked up
and recycled. Current computer recycling pickup days are
the first and third Monday of each month.
Downtown Campus
From the downtown campus, computers, computer peripherals,
and surplus office furniture can be brought to the Property
Management Office on Maple Street. Let them know you are
coming by calling 865-5219. To have the computer equipment
picked up at your downtown campus location and moved to
Property Management, submit an IT to Facilities Services
with the account number and department head signature. Make
sure the IT contains what you need moved, where is is currently
located and where you want it taken. It must also contain
a contact name and phone number. Your department will be
charged on a time and material basis for the move. If you
have any questions about the IT call 988-5424 (Facilities
Services).
Home office computers and equipment (those not owned by
Tulane) are not eligible for this program. The Green
Project and the post-Katrina household hazardous waste
collection programs provide electronics recycling to area
residents.
Before it's time to recycle, remember that enabling
monitor power management significantly reduces the environmental
impact of your computer over its life.
