Advanced-level German majors (5-6 semesters of German) have the option of taking part in two Junior Year Abroad programs.  The first is at the Freie Universität in Berlin.  Courses are taught in German, and may be selected from general university course offerings as well as courses designed specifically for exchange students.  Students in the FU Berlin program live in dormitories or apartments, thus experiencing full immersion into the culture of Berlin.  The second JYA we offer is at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität in Jena.  This program includes an intensive four-week language program in Germany, followed by enrollment in general university courses.  Students are housed in residence halls within walking distance of the university.
Students with a minimum of four semesters of German may also take part in the semester-long IES Berlin program, which combines required language instruction with a range of general university courses at the Humboldt Universität and courses designed for exchange students.  IES can provide laboratory space at the Technische Uni for science students, as well as studio space for art students.  It also includes options for internships, which might be used to fulfill Tulane’s public service requirements.  Students are housed with residents of Berlin.

Russian:
Our program actively encourages the qualified student of Russian to participate in summer and semester language study programs in Russia, and a number of our students have done so with great success. While Tulane does not presently offer its own study abroad program in Russia, the study abroad office and the Russian Department are happy to help the interested student find a program that will provide a fulfilling and satisfying experience of study in Russia.
