Student Health Center (Uptown)
(Acute illnesses only)

The Student Health Center (Downtown) is available to all students who have paid the Student Health Fee.  Part-time and dissertation students need to pay a Health Center fee to be eligible. Students at the School of Medicine and School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine can receive primary medical care at either the Uptown or Downtown location.

The Student Health Center (Downtown) is a primary care clinic. The physicians are general internal and family medicine faculty who are well equipped to manage the illnesses and injuries common to a student population. Immunizations, occupational health, routine GYN, and travel clinic services are available. When patients need more specialized care, they are referred to the appropriate specialist. Services for psychiatric, psychological, and drug or alcohol problems are available at the Uptown Student Health Center.

During the School year when the Student Health Center is closed, a physician is on call by beeper for urgent medical conditions.

If you have an urgent medical condition that cannot wait until the SHC is open during normal business hours Monday through Friday, please call the answering service at 504.889.3352

If you have a medical emergency:

   A. On the Uptown Campus dial xt. 5200

   B. On the Downtown Campus dial xt. 55555

   C. If you are off Campus please dial 911

The University requires that all full time students carry adequate medical insurance while attending Tulane University.  This requirement must be met each year during the Fall Semester by either enrolling in the university sponsored Student Medical Insurance Plan or declining the coverage by completing the on-line waiver or enrollment form.

It is your decision to either enroll or waive the Student Medical Insurance Plane.  You must inform the University of your decision by August 31st.  Failure to complete the on-line waiver form will result in the student's automatic enrollment in the Student Medical Insurance Plan.  Part-time, dissertation, executive program students and previously enrolled dependents are not automatically enrolled.

For more information on Tulane Student Medical Insurance Plan and for links to the Enrollment and Waiver site go to the Insurance Information Page.
