Anonymous HIV testing is offered by the Student Health Center (Uptown).   The cost of the testing is $30.  The test is administered by the OraQuick Rapid HIV Antibody Test and results take approximately 20 minutes to get back.  You will receive the results the same day the blood is drawn.  Call 865-5255, extension 3 to schedule an appointment.  Ask for a "special test".  No name is required but it is necessary to reserve a time slot.  Anonymous HIV testing involves both a pre- and post- test counseling session.  The total duration of time for the session is approximately 30 minutes.

If you choose to get the test, your healthcare provider will take a small droplet of blood from your finger, run the test, and give the results to you during the same visit.  The OraQuick test is very accurate.  If a result comes back as a PRELIMINARY POSITIVE, additional testing must be done.

The fee of $30 is cost-recovery for the Student Health Center to be able to offer the test.  Other organizations that offer HIV testing receive funding from government sources to offer testing at no cost.

Anonymous testing is available at no cost at the Community Awareness Network (CAN) located at 507 Frenchmen Street (Marigny).  CAN uses the same test that is administered by the Student Health Center.  Tests are offered on a walk-in basis.  No appointment is required.    For additional information call CAN at 945-4000.
