Enrollment in the Tulane University Student Health Insurance Plan

The University requires that all full-time students carry adequate medical insurance while attending Tulane University. If your student will remain on your major medical insurance policy as a dependent, it is imperative that you review the plan’s benefits when your dependent is living away from home. Some dependents are only covered as an out-of-network service and some not at all if your insurer is an HMO such as Kaiser-Permanente. Plans underwritten by Blue Cross-Blue Shield will not cover the costs of any services performed at the Student Health Center.  As a result, the student will be required to take the SHC script for Lab or Pharmacy work to an off-campus Blue Cross Provider.

Each year, full-time students must either enroll in the University sponsored Student Medical Insurance Plan, or waive enrollment by completing the on-line waiver form. This enrollment/waiver requirement must be met each year during the Fall semester or in the Spring for students enrolling as full-time for the first time in January.

Students enrolled for Full-Time for spring 2008 who were not Full-Time for fall 2007 must complete the on-line enrollment/waiver process by February 1, 2008. Failure to complete the on-line waiver form will result in the student's automatic enrollment in the Student Medical Insurance Plan and the premium charged to the student's Accounts Receivable. Charges for premiums cannot be removed after February 1, 2008. Part-time, dissertation, executive program students and previously enrolled dependents are not automatically enrolled.

The Tulane Student health Insurance provides:

  • $250,000 in coverage per injury and sickness per policy year.

  • In Network: $250 Annual Deductible 20% Co-Pay.

  • Out of Network: $500 Annual Deductible, 50% Co-Pay.

  • Provides coverage 24 hours a day world wide.
