WOMEN'S HEALTH CLINIC

The Women's Health Clinic is comprised of female nurse practitioners and a female physician who can evaluate and treat a variety of gynecologic issues.  It is preferred that students make an appointment to see a women's healthy clinician.  However, if you have an urgent problem please let us know when you are making the appointment.  Allowances can be made during normal office hours to be seen that day.

Location:  The Women's Health Clinics  are located on the third floor in the Tulane Student Health Center (Uptown), Building 92.

Phone:  For specific hours of operation, or to schedule an appointment, please call 865-5708 or 865-5255 ext. 228

Hours:

Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday Closed

Holidays and Summer: Call for hours of operation.

The Women's Health Clinics are closed daily from 12:00 Noon - 1:00 p.m. for lunch.

In the Primary Women's Health Clinic there is no fee to see the clinician, however, if the clinician orders labs or other studies there will be fees for those services.  Labs may include pap smears, STD testing, microscopic examinations of vaginal discharge, urinalysis, cultures, etc.

All student's coming to the Primary Women's Health Clinic for the FIRST time, will need to complete a rather lengthy History Form - as we are a teaching facility.  For your convenience we have included a link to the History Form here, so you can download it, complete it, and bring it with you on your first visit. Please remember, any information you provide us is held in STRICT CONFIDENCE.  Please be as forthcoming on your history so that our clinicians can best meet your specific healthcare needs.  If any of the information is emotionally upsetting to you, please speak to your clinician at the time of your visit.

Services by Appointment include:

  • First exam / annual exam - ask for your Emergency Contraceptive Prescription at this time.
  • Breast exam assessment and self-exam instruction
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing, counseling, and treatment
  • Pregnancy testing / counseling

*** Patients who schedule an appointment should plan to be in the Women's Health Clinic for at least 1 hour.  Patients should arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled appointment time. ***

Services After Hours:

  • Emergency Contraception / The Morning After Pill (EC / MAP)

For your convenience a Women's Health Provider is available on call when the clinic is closed for a prescription if your contraceptive method has failed.  Sooner is better for effective use of this medication (within 120 hours).  Call the SHC Answering Service at 889-3352.  Give the answering service your name and call back number.  We will call you back.  A phone interview will be done by one of our Women's Health Providers to ensure that you qualify for a prescription.  If you qualify, a prescription will be called to the nearest pharmacy in your area.

NOTE:  Plan for any future contraceptive failures by asking any clinician in our Women's Health Clinics for a prescription to have on hand for any future needs when our Clinics are closed.  You may also wish to carry your filled prescription with you if traveling out of town. Many pharmacies do not carry EC / MAP.
