SURVIVAL
TACTICS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS
Lectures and Lunch Series
Join us for
Getting Published: What Your Best Friends Won't Tell You
Wednesday March 28.
12:30-2:00 Newcomb Faculty Lounge
Followed by a Lunch for all attendees
Sponsored by the French/Italian department, GSSA, and the
Spanish/Portuguese department.
Barbara De Marco, the Editor of the respected journal "Romance Philology," will
give a presentation to Graduate Students on some basic do's and dont's of writing.
According to Elizabeth Poe, De Marco is the best copy editor ever to have "ripped
apart" her work. She will discuss how to put essays and other academic writings
into publishable form. Any graduate student interested in preparing articles for
publication is welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!
And Next,
The Job Search: How to Market Yourself
Friday, April 6, 12-2pm, Newcomb Faculty Lounge
The final event will focus specifically on the pragmatic issue of graduate student
'marketibility.' Issues to be raised include: how to prepare for today's academic
and non-academic jobs, postdoctoral opportunities, preparing supporting materials/dossier,
interview strategies, negotiating job offers, et cetera. Again some faculty
participation will provide advice 'from the other side' so to speak and give us an inside
look into what future employers want.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Hans W Gruenig at
gruenig@tulane.edu. Those
who are currently in the job market are
encouraged to participate.
**ALSO**
ISN is currently looking for new "executive
board members" come help us "build Tulane's interdisciplinary community."
We will be having elections during the week of April 15.
