The Newcomb Department of Music was founded in 1909, and is a division of the liberal arts colleges of Tulane University. The Newcomb Department of Music offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in music and music history, Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in composition, performance, jazz studies, and music theater, Bachelor of Science degree in music science and technology, as well as the equivalent Masters degrees. Music at Tulane University encompasses the history, theory, composition, and performance of music in a variety of styles and genres. Music enjoys a unique academic space incorporating the creativity and craftwork of the arts, the interpretive depth of the humanities, and the abstract theorizing of mathematics and science.
