Tulane University’s Newcomb Art Gallery will exhibit thirty-seven significant works from the Miami-based collection of Debra and Dennis Scholl from September 21 through December 17, 2006. Entitled Breathing Time, the mixed media exhibition is curated by Gary Sangster, Executive Director of the Headlands Center for the Arts in California, and is intended to give New Orleans’ audiences an opportunity to view a diverse array of important contemporary works.

“We know that the arts can play a part in creating the feeling of a return to normalcy, and we hope that this show will play a small role in that effort,” said Dennis Scholl. Avid collectors for the last three decades, the Scholls have amassed more than 350 works representing many of the major figures in contemporary art.

The Newcomb Art Gallery exhibition will present works by both long-established artists such as Matthew Barney, Jenny Holzer, John Baldessari, and Louise Lawler as well as more recently recognized artists including Paul Chan, Olafur Eliasson, and Anna Gaskell.
