Weatherhead Chair in Philosophy: Richard Velkley, PhDPennsylvania State University, 1978.
Before comingto Tulane Prof. Velkley taught at The Catholic University of America.He is the author of Freedom and the End of Reason: On theMoralFoundation of Kant's Critical Philosophy (Chicago: Universityof Chicago Press, 1989) and Being after Rousseau: PhilosophyandCulture in Question (Chicago: The University of ChicagoPress, 2002).

Murphy Institute

Tulane is home to The Murphy Instituteof Political Economy, which offers an undergraduate programin political economy and supports PPE: AJournal of Politics,Philosophy, and Economics. The Philosophy Department iscloselyconnected with the Murphy Institute’s Center for Ethics andPublic Affairs, which provides faculty and graduate fellowships andsponsors an active lecture series.
JohnHoward, who is AssociateDirector of the Murphy Institute and teaches courses in the philosophydepartment, was awarded the 2007 Mortar Board Award for Excellence inNon-Tenured Teaching..
