David Schwam-Baird began teaching full-time in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Florida [UNF] in 1995 and is now a tenured associate professor at that institution. In the doctoral program at Tulane he focused on Latin American International Relations, with a specialization in Brazil. While at Tulane he received a Tinker Grant through the Latin American Studies Program which enabled him to travel to Brazil to conduct research and interviews for his dissertation research. At UNF he teaches courses primarily in international politics, especially covering Latin America, the Middle East and Europe. He was awarded the UNF Faculty Association’s “Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching” prize for 2003-2004. Dr. Schwam-Baird has been an active member of the Association for Third World Studies since the late 1990s, and has served on its Board since 2002.
