OUR MISSION:

• To promote new research that deepens understanding of the region’s rich cultural resources,
  
  

• Tap the strength of existing resources through sustained collaborative efforts, 
  
  

• Ensure the region’s humanistic resources are made available to the broadest possible audience, and
  
  

• Build a two-way bridge between the humanities at the level of higher education and grassroots cultural and educational organizations in the five-state region.

 

THIS WEEK'S NEWS: The Center has been awarded a grant from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation Innovation Awards to establish a program of graduate student led walking tours in New Orleans.  The tour program will serve as a model to other cities on integrating academic scholarship with cultural tourism. "Breaking the Silence - Teaching about the Transatlantic Slave Trade"  The UNESCO Slave Routes Project symposium took place August 19-21.  Browse through our online report. The 2001 Tulane-Cambridge Conference: "Freedom Struggles in the Atlantic World", a conference sponsored by Tulane University and the University of Cambridge with the generous support of the Lupin Foundation, the Georges Lurcy Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the African-American Congress of Tulane University will be held at Tulane University April 5-7, 2001.
