The Look , The Feel of TAMS

Roles & responsibilities - the key to unlocking the power of TAMS

What you see is what you're going to get.  The image below is the first screen you will see when executing the TAMS applications.  All  of the TAMS screens have the same look and feel as most windows or web applications, containing helpful features such as pick lists, buttons, and toolbars.
Not only does this make the system better looking, more importantly it makes navigating between screens a breeze.  Soon to be gone are the days of memorizing FRS screen names - with TAMS you simply point, click, and you're on your way.

Roles and responsibilities are the key to maximizing the benefits of TAMS because they define your job functions and security access within the system.
A role is a pre-defined access to specific screens and functionality within each application.  The role(s) you are assigned let the system know what your job functions are and provides you access to the screens you need to get your work done.  Your responsibilities will also define which organizations and accounts you need to access.   For example, your job may require that you review purchase requisitions.  Therefore, in the Purchasing application your role would be a Requisition Reviewer and your responsibility would define which requisitions you review.
The TAMS team will create the roles and assign them to users.  Department heads and managers will then confirm that the assigned roles match the users' job functions.  Roles and responsibilities will be covered in more detail in the upcoming Overview sessions.  By attending these sessions, you will learn more about the importance of roles so that you can ensure your access is configured correctly.

PC or Mac - Take your pick with TAMS

The TAMS technical team has found a solution to the problem of running Oracle applications on a Macintosh system - and its name is Citrix.  Citrix is a software application that will allow users of both PC and Macintosh systems to have identical access to TAMS.  TAMS users will download via the internet a file which will install TAMS (3-5 MB of hard disk needed) on the desktop.  The installation of the software will not require any changes to your computer that would require a support person to visit the desktop.

Many users have questioned if there will be any specific desktop computing requirements in order to run TAMS.  Because TAMS will run through Citrix, it will operate on any system running Windows 95, 98, NT or Apple OS 7.5.5 or higher.  However, as with most desktop applications, the more powerful the system, the faster the application will run.  Users considering purchasing new equipment should consult the Tulane Infrastructure Services (TIS) recommended configurations which can be found at: http://www.tulane.edu/~admin/desktops.htm
