Like many students, Jessi Leavitt, an undergraduate volunteer (2004) from Tulane University,
contributes some of her volunteer time performing administrative support duties.
Some of the programs that were started as student ideas are Healthy Tales; an innovative health education method using narrative story telling, Bone health research; an epidemiological research study of bone mineral density in different racial/ethnic populations, Women’s health across the life-span; a community and clinical health service and educational model and a Breastfeeding support project. All programs involve health education and community outreach, as well as coalition building, policy and advocacy. The teamwork provides intra and inter-project exchange of ideas and expertise. With a comprehensive trans-disciplinary approach to training in women’s health, CWHEC achieves the goal of being the birthplace of future women’s health leaders and researchers.

Students and Staff also regularly engage in “Pot Luck Lunches” to
socialize and further exchange ideas and concepts.
