What TUXCOE Does
TUXCOE Mission to “enhance women’s health and well-being through communication, prevention and leadership.”
The National Center’s of Excellence in Women’s Health and TUXCOE
The Office of Women’s Health, DHHS created the National Center’s of Excellence in Women’s Health to “serve as demonstration models for the Nation to provide innovative, comprehensive and integrated health care systems for women.” The Center’s of Excellence are helping to change the public health approach to women’s health and we here at TUXCOE believe we are more than achieving this goal. Not only do we provide women within our community with clinical health care services, but TUXCOE also provides preventative services in a “women-friendly” arena. Preventative services include health education programs, outreach events, and educational materials. Additionally, TUXCOE is very active in several research projects. Lastly, TUXCOE strives to enhance professional education and the further development of professional women’s leadership and career development.

Partnerships/Supporting Community Organizations
Fostering support and partnerships within the TUXCOE community as well as throughout Louisiana is an important part of TUXCOE’s success. As stated before, TUXCOE pulls from the clinical, academic and educational missions of our collaborating institutions to build an effective community network and partnership towards the improvement of women’s health.

Policy
Significant health disparities in women’s health indicators exist for Louisiana and the United States. Louisiana in particular has a great need for change in women’s health policy. Though TUXCOE currently focuses on research, clinical services, outreach, leadership development, and professional education, we are moving towards adding policy to this list.
TUXCOE’s central vision to a women’s health policy initiative is:
-
Sustaining, nurturing and leading the agenda on women’s health issues in the South
-
Playing an advocacy role in women’s health through local, regional and national partnerships
-
Developing models to integrate clinical care, research and professional and public education in women’s health
-
Fostering and promoting expertise and excellence in the delivery of clinical care, research and education in women’s health throughout the Gulf South
TUXCOE’s women’s health policy initiative has led to various staff’s involvement in policy forums throughout the state. TUXCOE is actively involved in the Governor’s Commission on Women’s Health Policy and Research, the Louisiana Women’s Health Commission, the Tulane Day at the Legislature, and the Mayor’s Task Force on Maternal and Child Health. |
