Governance

In order to improve your Government's transparency, we have recently made the following documents more accessible to the Student Body. Below you will find all relevant internal documents: governing documents forming your Government's legal foundation and, to be posted soon,archived minutes, which include all proposed legislation.

Governing Documents

Your Undergraduate Student Government is a complex entity whose day-to-day operations, political authority, and basic structure are codified in many documents. To better understand how these structures work together to form your USG as we know it now, we include the following documents and a basic explanation of each for your convenience.

Associated Student Body Constitution
The Associated Student Body is the official voice of both the undergraduate and graduate student bodies. Comprised of both the Undergraduate Student Government and the Graduate and Professional Students' Association, it holds ultimate jurisdiction over both bodies. Though it meets infrequently, it remains the ulimate student government.

Undergraduate Student Constitution
The structure of your Undergraduate Student Government is codified in the Constitution, along with detailed descriptions of the roles, powers, and jurisdicitons of the Senate and the Executive Cabinet. Some, but not all, restrictions concerning uses student funds can be found written in the Constitution.

Government Bylaws
The Government's basic operating procedures, including the structure of Government meetings, specialized guidelines delineating the powers of the Government, and the role of standing and ad hoc committees are written in the bylaws.

Committee Bylaws
Detailed operating procedures for the Awards and Elections Committee, the Constitution and Bylaws Review Committee, the Design Initiatives and Review Committee, the Finance Committee, the Motor Pool Committee, the Mushroom Trust Fund Committee, the Public Affairs Committee, the Student Body Administrative Commitee, the Tidal Wave Commitee, and the Undergraduate Academic Concerns Commitee are found in these committees' governing bylaws.
