Correspondence, news articles, notes, pamphlets, newspapers, periodicals, sheet music, government documents, clippings, and other papers of Hermann Deutsch (1889-1970), newspaper reporter, columnist, and author. Of particular interest for research on women are Deutsch's reports on Huey P. Long's campaign for Hattie (Wayatt) Caraway's election to the US Senate for Arkansas in 1932. A poem signed by Caraway is also included.

Rose Israel (Mrs. Mayer Israel, née Rose Lazard) died on January 14, 1953, at the age of 87. A native and lifelong resident of New Orleans, she was the daughter of Calme Lazard, a prominent businessman, and Sarah Godchaux. The collection contains records of Rose Israel; the estate of her husband, Mayer Israel; and Mayer Israel & Co., the major retail clothier and general department store that he founded and that operated in New Orleans from ca. 1891 until the late 1950s. Materials associated with Rose Israel consist mainly of financial records for 1915-1953.

Phonodiscs of Louisiana French folk songs and stories recorded by Lelia Saucier, a folklorist, author, and teacher of Spanish and French at Louisiana State Normal College (now Northwestern State University) at Natchitoches, Louisiana. Her book, Folk Tales from French Louisiana (1962) was based largely on these recordings.

Legal files of Herman Lazard Midlo, including briefs, petitions, affidavits, depositions, demurrers, photographs, correspondence, agreements, clippings, a taped interview, and miscellaneous pamphlets. Midlo's work involved immigration and naturalization, labor, and civil liberties issues. His clients included the United Transport Workers Union of America, and the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society. The papers of his daughter, Dr. Gwendolyn Hall, are in the Michigan Historical Collection, Ann Arbor, Michigan and the Amistad Research Center at Tulane University.
