On behalf of the International Society for Cellular Therapy (ISCT), The American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and The Center for Gene Therapy of the Tulane University Health Sciences Center, it is our pleasure to invite you to the fourth annual meeting on Nonhematopoietic and Mesenchymal Stem Cells. This is the fourth ISCT-ASBMT meeting dedicated to the field of Nonhematopoietic Stem Cells, and we are again delighted to be in New Orleans with its superb fall climate and its extensive array of social activities. The extraordinary world-wide interest in stem cells is leading to rapid advances in our understanding of stem cells, as well as to novel clinical trials to explore the therapeutic potential of nonhematopoietic stem cells. This work will undoubtedly expand the role of cellular therapy and stem cell transplantation to broad range of disorders. This year, our focus is on mesenchymal stem cell biology, and cardiac, pulmonary, orthopedic, and neurologic applications of cell therapy. Our meeting will begin with the much-anticipated keynote address by Dr. David Scadden, a world leader in stem cell biology. We will then have two days of symposia comprised of invited speakers and selected abstracts. Topics will range from fundamental stem cell biology to preclinical models and clinical trials. We will also begin to identify the most important obstacles to the clinical applications of nonhematopoietic cellular therapy; to encourage the participation of all delegates, we will use a workshop to discuss these problems. Throughout the meeting posters will be available for viewing and there will be a reception at which authors will be available to present their work. Organizing this meeting, we have not only tried to reflect the most rapidly advancing areas of our field, but also have included many more oral abstract presentations to foster the exchange of ideas among all participants. It is our hope that everyone will find this meeting both timely and stimulating. We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans! |
