Our Work: Public Policy:

2008 Policy Agenda

The Cowen Institute’s policy agenda for 2008 is based on the priorities identified through the Institute’s State of Public Education in New Orleans report, as well as additional stakeholder outreach and input.  It reflects the needs and aspirations of the New Orleans community based on input from local schools, educators, administrators, parents, community leaders, and policymakers.  During the upcoming year, the Cowen Institute will analyze, draft, and advance policies and legislation to achieve the following goals:

#1:  Develop a clear and aligned governance model

#2:  Ensure adequate allocation and equitable distribution of sustainable resources for schools

#3:  Ensure accountability of schools and people

#4:  Ensure equitable access to high-quality school options in every community
