THE JONES SCHOLARS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:
Providing Tulane students with the opportunity to leave a legacy
The Jones Scholars Internship Program was created to provide valuable intellectual and human capital to the work of the K-12 public education community in New Orleans, building their capacity and expertise. With dedicated support from Tulane’s brightest students, schools and education nonprofits will have the chance to make even greater strides toward improving the educational achievement of the students in our city’s public schools. Jones Scholars spend a semester working directly for a charter or traditional public school in Orleans Parish, or with one of the high-impact nonprofit organizations that support them, on a project determined by the host site. The Cowen Institute provides stipends of $4,000 for undergraduates and $6,000 for graduate students for the semester of work performed on assigned projects (20 hours per week is expected).
Thanks to the generous support of the Eugenie and Joseph Jones Family Foundation, the Cowen Institute will support five students through this innovative paid internship program. Below you will find information on the Jones Scholars and their projects for the Fall 2008 academic semester.
- Ian Furman: joint JD and MBA candidate, will be working with the Children’s Bureau of New Orleans in an evaluation of its Grief & Trauma Group Intervention project.
- Brigham Hall: concentrating in Finance in the Freeman School of Business, will assist The International School of Louisiana in developing a business plan for program expansion and replication.
