Faculty Research Grant Program

We believe that the post-Katrina rebuilding of public education in New Orleans must be research-based in order to achieve sustained school and student achievement.  The Cowen Institute has also developed the Scholars Grant Program, a series of structured research grants for Tulane faculty to encourage multidisciplinary applied research that will create new knowledge to inform and influence the transformation of public education.  This program provides incentives to the university’s faculty to produce substantive research that can inform education leaders nationwide looking for fresh perspectives and practical solutions to turning around chronic underachievement in public schools.  The research will be part of a national information clearinghouse that other urban education reform efforts can draw from.  The Cowen Institute expects to award four to six grants of up to $10,000 each year.
