Housing Update
The university encourages everyone in need of housing to continue to actively look for housing on their own. If you are a displaced current Tulane faculty or staff member, please note the following information on available university housing options. While the university is no longer accepting applications for Tulane-FEMA trailers, a FEMA ID number is required to be eligible for housing available through the university.
FEMA Trailers
FEMA anticipates installing a limited number of FEMA trailers at the Rosen House Parking Lot and Carver Playground sites for the exclusive use of current Tulane employees at the end of January. To date, we have not received confirmation of how many trailers FEMA will install at either location, or when.
Primate Center, Covington: The St. Tammany Parish government has granted provisional approval for installation of FEMA trailers at the Tulane Primate Center in Covington, but has not confirmed a trailer quantity or installation date.
Hebert Center, Belle Chasse: To date, approval for trailer installation at the F. Edward Hebert site in Belle Chasse has not been granted.
Dream Princess Cruise Ship
The Dream Princess cruise ship will dock at the Orange Street wharf on the Mississippi River through mid-May 2006 (http://www.tulane.edu/newwave/122205_ships.html). Approximately 200 cabins will be made available for displaced faculty and staff to rent on a month-to-month basis. Rents for these ship-board cabins are $725 per person per cabin + $375 per person for the meal plan. With a FEMA ID number you can rent a cabin for $786 per month, with no meal plan. Rents include housekeeping services for the duration of the stay. Pets are NOT allowed. For leasing information please email Karen Snyder at ksnyder@tulane.edu.
Georgian Apartment Building, (2233 St. Charles Avenue)
A small number of 400 s.f. unfurnished studio apartments are available at the Georgian Apartment Building on St. Charles Avenue. Rents range from $600-$825 per month, plus utilities. (Current rental rates in the uptown area vary widely and average $750 per month and up.) A FEMA ID number is required to rent these apartments, and all applicants will be required to go through an application process with the Georgian’s management, which includes a background/security check. Pets are NOT allowed. Rent will be paid via payroll deduction. For leasing information please email Karen Snyder at ksnyder@tulane.edu.
Modular Housing, University Square
Installation of modular housing at University Square has been postponed due to manufacturing delays. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
