CELEBRATION SCENES. At University Commencement on Saturday morning (May 19), famed jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis celebrates his new Tulane honorary degree by sitting in for a song. Graduates are the stars of the day and are lauded by all speakers for their dedication and community service. A familiar symbol of New Orleans, the fleur-de-lis, makes an appearance, while new grads celebrate with jazzy umbrellas. Meanwhile, families enjoy moments between afternoon diploma ceremonies on the Tulane uptown campus. (Photos by Paula Burch-Celentano and George Long.) |
