The first- and second-round games, slated for March 18 and 20, 2010, will be played at the New Orleans Arena. Each first- and second-round regional site will feature eight teams all striving to advance to the Final Four, which will be played in Indianapolis.

Tulane sophomore football player Craig Gelhardt is one of seven New Orleans-area student-athletes to be honored by the Coca-Cola Co. and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) as a Coca-Cola Community All-American. For his hard work and dedication to the Green Wave athletics program throughout the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Tulane University Athletics Director Rick Dickson received the Distinguished Service Award from the United States Sports Academy at the National Association of College Directors of Athletics Convention.

The Tulane University women's basketball team has added a new, yet familiar face to its coaching staff as Shanna Cook was named assistant coach, Green Wave head coach Lisa Stockton announced.

Cook comes to Tulane with 11 years experience as an assistant coach, including the past two years at Samford University, where she helped the Bulldogs set a school record last year with a 21-8 mark. "I'm excited to have Shanna join our staff," Stockton said. "I have known her ever since she played at UNO, and always had great respect for her as a coach and a recruiter."

Cook will assist in all facets of recruiting, practice schemes and game-plan implementation. In addition, she will help coordinate the Green Wave's community service projects and youth camps during the summer.

At Samford, she helped the Bulldogs post a combined 34-23 record, back-to-back double-digit win seasons and the first 20-win season in school history.

Asumnu finished 11th in the 100 meters and 10th in the 200 meters at the NCAA Mideast Regional, but qualified for the national championship meet based on the school record times she ran at the Ole Miss Invitational on April 8. At that meet, Asumnu established the Tulane records in both the 100 meters, with a time of 11.38 seconds, and the 200 meters, by running 23.40.

"We're excited that Gloria will be representing Tulane at the NCAA Championships this year," said Tulane head coach Heather Van Norman. "It is very well deserved. Like our entire team, she has worked very hard. It means a lot for Tulane to be at such a prestigious meet after everything that has gone on with our athletics program, our university and our city this year. It was quite a Tulane weekend. While graduating seniors were honored at commencement and diploma ceremonies, the Green Wave baseball team closed out its regular season at Zephyr Field with Conference USA games against the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to Saturday's game, graduates Blake Walker and Tyler Kimmons were recognized and honored. Walker is a transfer who is graduating with a master's in finance and Kimmons is a business major. In addition, prior to the game, Tulane honored a pair of football student-athletes who have been recognized for their community service efforts this year. Tulane men's golf head coach Tom Shaw has been recognized as the Conference USA Men's Golf Coach of the Year after leading his short-handed team through a tumultuous 2005-2006 season.

Shaw, who completed his sixth and final season as Tulane's head coach, was surprised by the honor. "I think some coaches out there knew what our team went through, how we battled and what it took to keep competing," he said. "This [award] is not about me, it's about the guys here this week that have carried the banner of Tulane University under pretty adverse circumstances."

The Green Wave men's golf team is one of eight programs suspended by the university beginning this fall in the wake of budget cuts due to Hurricane Katrina. Men's golf was one of just two programs that elected to continue competing this spring, although several team members, including Tulane's top three golfers last fall, opted to transfer or to save a year of eligibility by not participating. Tulane finished 12th at the 2006 league championships with a short roster of just four players.
