Advantage, Tulane. With the Green Wave women's tennis team slated to return to action for the 2008-09 academic year, Tulane University Director of Athletics Rick Dickson on Wednesday (July 11) announced Terri Sisk as the program's new head coach.

Terri Lynn Sisk
Terri Sisk
Sisk comes to Tulane after serving the last five seasons as the head coach of the women's tennis team at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. She inherits a program that won four Conference USA titles from 2001-05 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament six times in 1997-2005 before being suspended in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in fall 2005.

Sisk also becomes the second coach hired by Tulane to restart a suspended program, joining new women's golf head coach John Thomas Horton, who was hired on July 4.

With the Samford Bulldogs, Sisk led the program to three Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Championships -- two tournament titles (2004, 2006) and one regular-season crown (2007) -- and a pair of NCAA Regional Tournament appearances (2004, 2006). The team's trip to the NCAAs in 2004 marked the first time in program history the Bulldogs advanced to the postseason and Samford finished one win shy of Sisk's third NCAA berth after finishing as runners-up in the 2007 OVC Tournament.

"Moving to Tulane University is one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me in my professional career," Sisk said.

"He really fits the model we have used here to hire head coaches – a former elite player with a passion for the game who has the innate ability to teach the next generation of collegiate golfers."

While at GSU, Horton helped the Eagles win the 2006 Southern Conference Championship and advance to the NCAA East Regionals.
