The School of Liberal Arts had a fantastic turnout of current and past students, and many parents, at the SLA tailgating tent this past Saturday on the LBC quad.  Visitors enjoyed food, beverages, SLA buttons and stadium seats (pictured above). Three lucky attendees were selected in a drawing and each won two tickets to the homecoming game in the Westfeldt Terrace.

Creative Writing Powerhouse

The creative writing program at Tulane University has evolved into a powerhouse, with the four tenured English professors all receiving acclaim for recent work. "We have now developed a coterie of internationally recognized creative writers," says School of Liberal Arts Dean Carole Haber. "They not only demonstrate great depth in their writing, but provide great breadth in their teaching through classes in poetry, prose, and creative non-fiction."

Four Writers Reading - Ian Gallagher Zelazny Writers Series

The evening of November 3 was the occasion for a very special event, a group reading by the Tulane English Department's Creative Writing faculty. A packed house in Freeman Auditorium, at the Woldenberg Art Center, was invited into the very different but equally human, imaginative worlds of four Tulane writers, each of whom, over the past year, has also published a new book to critical acclaim.

Awarded Professorships

Three named professorships have been awarded to School of Liberal Arts faculty members, underscoring the high caliber of Tulane educators. Tulane Provost Michael Bernstein, Anthropology Professor and linguist Judith Maxwell, and National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward received the professorships July 1.

Modern Technology in MARI
New Lab Dedicated to Geographic Exploration and Analysis

On August 26, 2014 the Middle American Research Institute (M.A.R.I.) inaugurated a new lab dedicated to geographic exploration and analysis. Consisting of ten new high-performance computers, this new lab will provide SLA students and faculty the ability to gather and analyze spatial data for a variety of research applications.
