
Alpha Epsilon Delta

Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) is a
nationally recognized pre-medical honorary which was founded at the University of Alabama
in 1926. As stated in the AED Constitution, the object of this society is to
encourage excellence in premedical scholarship, stimulate an appreciation of the
importance of premedical education in the study of medicine, promote cooperation and
contacts between medical and premedical students and educators in developing an adequate
program of premedical education, to bind together similarly interested students, and to
sue its knowledge for the benefit of health organizations, charities, and the community.
The national requirements for active membership are
that the student must be engaged in courses leading to the study of medicine, shall have
completed three semesters of college course work with a general scholastic average of 3.2
on a 4.0 scale for an "A." Character, general ability, and personality are
considered carefully in the selection of every member. Members shall be elected
without any discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, creed or national origin.
Members are required to pay a one time national fee of $65.00 upon initiation into
the premedical national honor society. We now also offer an Associate Membership for $5.00 per year. Associate members are not registered with the national office.
