About
the Acadiana Club
Welcome
to the Tulane Club of Acadiana, a constituent member of the Tulane
Alumni Association (TAA)
Founded
in 1898, TAA provides a forum for
meaningful involvement and interaction
among the university's 105,000 alumni, its
students and university leaders. On a local
level, the Acadiana Club serves the needs
of alumni and friends residing in the following
Parishes: Lafayette, Acadia, St Landry,
St Mary, St Martin, Iberia and Vermilion. The
areas are all adjacent to Lafayette Parish and
the collection of Parishes is often referred to
as Acadiana, hence the Club's name. |

With
more than 1,800 local Tulane alumni and friends across the Acadiana
area, this Club brings to the table a diverse blend of culture,
heritage, language, music and, of course, food. Crawfish boils and
"good times" are not annual events, but a way of life here.
The
Club has traditionally arranged events around athletic events when
Tulane comes to Lafayette, educational endeavors on occasions that
professors and university officials visit the area, functions supporting
and encouraging admission to Tulane University, and general social
gatherings. Those in the past have included dinners at local restaurants
with guest chefs, gathering at a local theater for a performance
and cocktails, socials at an alumni's home, golf tournaments, and
yes even crawfish boils when the Coaches come to town. Acadiana
knows how to "pass a good time". In the planning stages for 2003
are a function downtown Lafayette on one of the monthly Art Walk
weekends, small dinner gatherings at new restaurants in the area,
monthly happy hours, a Tulane Night at the Abbey Theater in Abbeville,
and the possibility of a private party at the newly renovated Lafayette
Natural History Museum or at the new ULL museum in conjunction with
professors from Tulane and Newcomb. These are all wonderful opportunities
for you to become involved in Tulane. Also in the organizational
phase is a Young Alumni group, through which the Club hopes to offer
networking opportunities to new alumni moving to Acadiana. Feel
free to visit the Acadiana Photo Archives to view candid shots of
Tulanians "passing a good time".
Activities
of the club are planned and organized by local alumni, with the
assistance of the Tulane Office of Alumni Affairs. Your ideas and
assistance are always welcome. Currently volunteers are needed to
coordinate specific events, so please contact the club leaders,
Sharon and St Paul Bourgeois
if you would like to get involved. Also, consider joining the Acadiana
ListServe, which will provide email notices to you about the
details of upcoming events.
