About
the Washington DC Club
The Tulane Club of Washington, DC is an active group of local alumni who organize social, educational, and cultural activities for Tulane alumni in the DC area. Our members are leading professionals in numerous fields including law, medicine, public health, business, and education. Some are leaders in their local communities; others are national leaders like U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-LA) and U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor (D-MS).
Many alumni clubs talk about the size of their email lists or the number of registered alums in a geographic area. Although our club boasts an impressive 5,000-person membership, the Tulane Club of DC prefers to measure its membership and success by the number of alums who regularly participate in club activities. We believe this is the true measure of alumni interest and the relevance the club and university play in the everyday life of local alums.
In just the past year the DC Tulane alumni club has fielded co-ed sports teams – flag football, basketball, soccer and softball. We have also hosted events at the National Gallery of Art and the Jewish Community Center. True to our Louisiana roots, we also hosted the most successful crawfish boil in the DC area, an annual Mardi Gras Party, and we bring a large group to the annual Swamp Romp at Wolf Trap.
The relevant - and fun - aspect of the DC Tulane alumni club is that we focus on well balanced activities. Sports keep us fit, intellectual pursuits keep our minds challenged, and our parties keep the good times rolling.
For the balance of 2006, our calendar of events include an evening at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, a sailing cruise on the Chesapeake Bay, a Washington Nationals baseball Game, hopefully bringing home the alumni soccer league championship trophy, and certainly fielding another flag football team.
Activities of the club are always planned and organized by local alumni leadership with the assistance of the Tulane Office of Alumni Affairs. Since the reputation of the club has been to regularly offer exciting and fun events to all alums, we are continually challenging ourselves to try new things, but equally as important involve new people who have great ideas.
