Outstanding
Alumni of the Class of 1954
FRANCIS
L. FRAENKEL
Francis L. Fraenkel is a 1954 graduate of Tulane University’s
School of Business and was named its Outstanding Alumnus in 1983.
He is a Managing Director of Neuberger Berman, a New York based money
management firm.
A
native of New Orleans, Mr. Fraenkel was elected to Kappa Delta Phi
and ODK honorary societies and served as editor of the Jambalaya while
at Tulane. In addition, he served for a number of years as a member
of the Business School Council.
His
business career began as a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner
and Smith in New Orleans. He was promoted to management training in
New York in 1968. In 1972 Mr. Fraenkel resigned from Merrill Lynch
to become a partner of Loeb Rhoades & Co., where he assumed responsibility
for its Investment Management division. A series of mergers in subsequent
years placed him in positions of senior responsibility for the asset
management businesses of American Express and Lehman Brothers. In
1992 he founded a company of his own, Delta Capital Management, which
was acquired by Neuberger Berman in December 2000.
Mr.
Fraenkel has long maintained close and supportive ties with Tulane.
He played an instrumental role in arranging for American Express to
fund the initial years of the Career Day program. In 1988 he effectively
partnered Tulane development efforts with Lehman Management office
resources for a very successful fund raising campaign. In recent years
he has continued to support the progress of the University and the
School of Business through generous giving which has also benefited
Tulane Athletics and the Jewish Studies program.
Mr.
Fraenkel’s late wife, Cecele Ross Fraenkel, was a Newcomb ‘54
graduate and his brother, Albert Fraenkel II, was a Tulane graduate,
and both were also dedicated supporters of the University.
