SMP
The
objective of the ROTC Simultaneous Membership Program is
to provide more ROTC graduates for Selected Reserve.
The ROTC/SMP
is an officer-training program that requires Reserve Component
(RC) enlisted status in a Troop Program Unit (TPU) for elgibility,
either the
Army Reserve
or the
National Guard.
Enlisted members of TPU who contract in the ROTC Advance
Course must assume SMP status, or be discharged from their
unit. They cannot remain in a TPU as a contracted ROTC cadet
unless they assume SMP status.
Benefits
- Receive
experience and serve in a TPU as a company grade officer.
- Receive
a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) contract if desired.
Non-scholarship students may request GRFD contract and,
if approved, are assured they will have USAR or Guard
unit duty only upon graduation and commissioning.
- Receive
pay as an E-5. An E-5 (2 years of service) is entitled
to $63.65 for one reserve drill. In general, a weekend
drill is worth 4 one-day drills; $63.65 x 4 = $254.60
per weekend. An SMP participant who performs 12 weekend
drills per year could earn $3055.20.
- Receive
annual training pay with TPU (an E-5 is entitled to $63.65
for each day of AT; $63.65 x 15 = $954.75).
- Receive
a tax free ROTC subsistence allowance of $450 per month
for 10 months ($4,500 per year). This amount is for Juniors;
Seniors receive $500 ($5,000 per year).
- Receive
cadet pay for summer training in your junior year (approximately
$930).
