SYLLABUS Course Title: Intermediate Vietnamese 11 Course Number: ASTV20301 Prerequisites: ASTV201 01
Course Description: Intermediate Vietnamese 2 is a course in which the students learn basic Vietnamese literature and the roots of the Vietnamese language. The emphasis is on literary texts and Vietnamese poetry from 18th to 19th century. Essays are also introduced with basic concepts of Vietnamese morality.
Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this course students will be able to write short poems and short stories, sometimes comprehensive essays using Vietnamese vocabularies borrowed from the Chinese language (Mandarin and Cantonese) called Sino Vietnamese Classics.
Reading Materials: There are three books to read. These books complement the course lectures and classroom discussions. You are required to finish reading all three books. Examination: There will be two semester examinations. Each test is worth thirtyfive percent of your semester grade. Every semester is a compact and concentrated period of study, placing a premium of time, preparations, stamina, and patience. There will be no makeup examination except for medical reasons. I reserve the right to judge cases on an individual basis.
