"Buddy" Gouldsmith begins his first season with the Green Wave baseball program. He responsibilities include the catchers, hitters and coaching first base.
He comes to Tulane after serving five years as an assistant coach at American River College in California. Gouldsmith comes from a winner background, as American River won the conference championship the last two seasons, 1996 and 1997. While at American River he also taught physical education classes for two years.
For the past four years (1994-'97) he was an associate scout for the San Francisco Giants.
Gouldsmith was an assistant coach at Cosumnes River College from 1992 to 1993. He served as the head coach from 1990 to 1994 of the Charles Eggen American Legion team, winners of the 1992 state championship.
He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues.
A native of Sacramento, Calif.,Goldsmith graduated from California State University at Sacramento with a degree in business administration. He received his master's degree in sport management in 1996 from the United States Sports Academy.
Gouldsmith played at the junior college level at American River from 1987 to 1989, batting .400 one season. He played Division I at Chico State from 1989 to 1990.
He and his wife, Heather, reside in New Orleans.
