tryouts

Incoming Freshmen and Sophomores:

If you have experience in cheer, dance, or gymnastics, you will qualify to try out for our Blue Squad.  The Blue Squad cheers at all home football games and women's basketball games, as well as select volleyball games, alumni events, pep rallies, and fundraisers.  After one year on the Blue Squad, you will qualify to try out for the Green Squad.

Tryouts for the Blue Squad are held in April and September. The tryout will begin with a clinic during which potential squad members learn a cheer and short dance. During the clinic, the judges will observe stunting skills. After a short break, potential squad members will perform the cheer and dance, as well as any tumbling. Please wear appropriate cheerleading attire (t-shirt, shorts) as well as cheerleading shoes.

Baseline requirements for stunting are prep, extension, lib, and willingness to work towards more advanced stunts. There are no strict tumbling requirements, although a standing back handspring and running tumbling are preferred. Clean motions and a good attitude are stressed. Please fill out the Tryout Form, Tryout Scoring, Medical Release, and Emergency Contact Info forms and bring them with you along with a $10 tryout fee (cash or check to Tulane Cheerleading).

If you are unable to attend the April 2 tryout, you have the option of sending in a video submission. It must be received by May 31, 2011.

Juniors and Seniors:

If you have experience in cheer, dance, or gymnastics, you will qualify to try out for our Blue Squad and our Green Squad.  Both squads cheer at all home football games as well as select volleyball games, alumni events, pep rallies, and fundraisers.  The Blue Squad cheers at all home women’s basketball games. The Green Squad cheers at all home men’s basketball games and travels to away football games.

Tryouts for the Green Squad are held in April only.
