Healthcare
Business Certificate Program
WHAT
The Healthcare Business Certificate Program
offered by University College of Tulane is designed for people in clinical
and non-clinical positions currently working in the healthcare industry
who seek to develop a sharper business orientation, become more proficient
managers and earn an important credential. Ideal candidates are those
preparing to advance their career to the next level, transition from a
clinical or service position into an administrative role, or retool to open
new professional pathways.
Each course
is demanding, theoretical and wide reaching in application. The program
emphasizes the generalist approach common to intensive executive-level
programs. Students complete the fully accredited course of studies better
prepared to address a broad range of administrative issues and
organizational conditions.
Important
features include evening and Saturday classes, completion in as few as nine
months and very reasonable cost.
Who Should Apply?
Prospective students come from such disciplines as:
Nursing RN, LPN, APRN, CRNA and other nursing
specialists
Allied Health
RT, PT, radiology,
laboratory, EMT, etc.
Ancillary/Support
billing,
medical records, facility services, marketing, HR, etc.
The target
audience also includes people in the greater healthcare industry such as
medical group practices, HMOs, PPOs, TPAs, insurance companies, etc.
Course of Study
The highly
focused, foundational academic curriculum consists of four classes (a total
of twelve academic credit hours).
* UACT 111
Elementary Accounting I (3hrs.)
* UHRM 334 Managing Organizational Behavior (3 hrs.)
or UHRM 333 Human Resources (3 hrs.)
* UHRM 392 Employment and Labor Law (3 hrs.)
* UHRM 370 Performance Appraisal and Productivity (3 hrs.)
Note: The academic credits may count toward an associate or bachelors
degree; the certificate has post-baccalaureate status for students who
already have a bachelors degree.
Admission
University College is the adult continuing education division for Tulane
University. Since the university operates year-round, students may begin the
program during the fall, spring or summer sessions. University College
offers open admissions and does not require ACT or SAT scores. Financial aid
is available.
Applications for the Fall 2004 semester are now being accepted.
August 19:

Note to Employers
Senior-level executives will find the program especially reasonable and
effective. It allows organizations to develop their experienced staff
members in a cost-effective and accelerated time frame with a challenging,
proven course of business studies.
Enhancement Options
After completing the certificate, students seeking specialization have
the option to take additional courses in such fields as accounting, computer
technology or marketing, to list but few available through University
College. Our academic advisors are available to work with each student to
make planning simple.
