Any student considering taking the Uniform CPA examination should contact the State Board of Certified Public Accountants of Louisiana, (504) 566-1244, www.CPAboard.state.la.us , to get a complete copy of the examination requirements and information. The requirements may change.  University College serves both students who wish to prepare for the CPA exam while they earn a degree as well as students who already have a degree but lack the specified accounting and or business courses.

In order to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination, a student must:

Earn a bachelor degree from an accredited institution
Have earned a 150 semester credits as prescribed by the Louisiana CPA State Board Rules, including 24 credits of business courses, including an acceptable Business Law course (UBSL-345 Commercial Law)
Complete 24 credits of specific accounting courses.  UC suggests the following program of study, which allows for prerequisite courses*not included in the required 24 accounting credits.
UACT 111 Elementary Accounting I * (3 credits)
UACT 112 Elementary Accounting II * (3 credits)
UACT 221 Intermediate Accounting I (3 credits)
UACT 222 Intermediate Accounting II (3 credits)
UACT 331 Cost Accounting (3 credits)
UACT 341 Income Tax (3 credits)
UACT 342 Corporate Tax (3 credits)
UACT 451 Auditing (3 credits)
UACT 562 Advanced Accounting (3 credits)
Accounting elective about the 100 level (3 credits)

Total 30 Credits

Students seeking a degree while preparing for the CPA exam must complete the same courses.  Some of these courses may be used as general electives satisfying degree requirements.
