- Inductively-coupled plasma (ICP) atomic emission spectrometer
- Sediment-dating radiometer
- The staff can assist with quantitative and qualitative analysis of
crystalline compounds.
- X-ray dispersive powder diffractometer
Microscopy Laboratory
- This lab assists the researcher with morphological analysis of both
biological and materials science samples.
- High-resolution imaging is performed by electron microscopy.
- Environmental scanning electron microscope with tungsten filament and wavelength and energy dispersive
x-ray spectrometers.
- Field emission scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer.
- Laser scanning microscope (confocal) microscope for imaging fluorescently labeled samples in three dimensions.
Organics Analysis Laboratory
- This lab has a number of instruments for identifying organic compounds.
- Gas chromatograph (GC) with flame ionization detector and electron capture detector
- Matrix-assisted-laser-desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF-MS)
- Gas chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) for volatile and semi-volatile compound analysis
- Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (NMR)
- This lab also houses an instrument for measurement of ultra-trace level of metals and/or isotope ratios.
- A high-resolution Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectrometer (ICP/MS)
