PLANT SYSTEMATICS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
An
introduction to the structure and classification of land plants (tracheophytes), with an overview of plant life history and morphology,
and an examination of the major families of flowering plants.
In the coordinated laboratory section, course participants see
examples of plant diversity drawn mainly from the flora of North America, and gain experience in the use of keys for plant identification.
Field
trips emphasize the geographical distributions of land plants and their ecological requirements. Lectures cover the history
and theory of plant classification and phylogenetics.
