To create an effective web site, you should begin by creating a layout of the site and indicating the connections between the different pages.

II. Creating a home page – Text

A. Link to Netscape and select communicator in upper toolbar. Select composer in drop down text box.

B. Type in title of site.

C. Highlight site name by holding down the mouse and going over all the letters of the title. Use the icons on the toolbar to change the font, the color, the size, the alignment, etc.

D. If you have the introduction on a diskette, open the file in a word processing program and click and copy the paragraph.

A. Go to web site and right click on image. Select save image as and save on diskette.

B. Return to Netscape Composer. Place Pointer where you want the image.

C. Click on Image Icon and find image on diskette. Select Ok.

D. To resize image: Click on image and select image properties, select "constrain" image, and manipulate pixels.

A. Select file from toolbar. Select Save as. Entitle the page "home.htm"

A. Select New on top tool bar. Select blank page. Type in "liens". Choose background and font, color, size, etc.

B. Save page as liens.htm

C. Repeat A & B until you have pages for liens, essai, glossaire, gallerie, and bibliographie.

A. Return to home page.

B. Type in a tool bar, including essai, liens, glossaire, gallerie, bibliographie

C. Type in date and name at the bottom of the page.

D. To link to email: Highlight name, click LINK icon, type in mailto:AND YOUR EMAIL

E. To link to internal pages: Highlight "liens" and select link icon on top toolbar. Type in "liens.htm"

F. To link to external pages: On link page, type in the title of one site that you located. Highlight site, select link icon, type in full address.

For example: Type "FREN434/634: Parchment, Print, & PCs. Highlight title, click link icon and type in address: http://www.tulane.edu/~dmcgrad/434_634.htm

A. Select publish on toolbar and type in the following address:

ftp://studentweb.tulane.edu/home/yourusername/public_html

B. Put in user name and password.

C. Select all files and click ok.
