School Related:
- Turn off your computer when you are not using it.
- Do not print a document unless you need to; use both sides of
a sheet of paper before recycling it (especially for drafts).
- Buy recycled paper for your notebooks and printer paper.
- Reformat floppy discs instead of buying new ones.
- Refill the toner cartridges for your printer (this saves a lot
of money as well).
- Fax documents instead of mailing them, or if you can, use e-mail.

At
Home:
- Recycle! Make it convenient and non-burdensome. About 70% of your
waste can be recycled, but you may want to start small (with newspapers
only for example); and then work your way up to the entire range
of recyclables.
- Buy products in bulk or those that come with less packaging.
- Bring
a reusable mug to campus for your coffee or other beverages. Not
only will you throw away less garbage, but you will also save money.
PJ's gives deals to people using reusable mugs.
- Save energy! Turn off lights and appliances you are not using.
- Close off rooms in your house that you do not use. You will also
save money on your utility bills.
- Run the dishwasher only when it is full.
- Line-dry your clothes instead of using the dryer.
- Dress appropriately for the season instead of adjusting the temperature
of your house.
- Bike or walk instead of driving.
- Use low-flow showerheads.
- Compost! Use your food scraps and start your own composting pile
in your backyard.
- Plant a tree in your yard. Trees need much less water and maintenance
than grass.
