The J. Ernest Tanner Award for Excellence in Economics -
Joshua Pollack
This, our highest award, goes each year to the student
with the highest GPA among all graduating Economics
majors. Joshua M. Pollack has an outstanding record at Tulane,
and
has earned
an overall GPA of 3.947 in his years at Tulane. He wrote an original
class
paper that examined the benefits and costs of China's Three Gorges Dam,
and he also wrote a novel honors thesis that combined economics and
psychology in an experimental analysis of how individuals balance notions
of interpersonal
equity and personal gain in their decisions.
The Newcomb College Award in Economics - Emily A. Brechlin
The Newcomb College Award in Economics goes to the outstanding
female Economics major. Emily A. Brechlin has earned an overall GPA
of 3.879 in her years at Tulane University, combining a major in Economics
with
a
major
in Mathematics. She also participated in a summer research program
for undergraduates in the Department of Economics, the Tulane Research
Experience for Undergraduates.
The Mathematical Economics Award - Emily Brechlin and Jessica
Feagles
This award is given to the student with
the highest GPA among all graduating Economics majors who also have
a significant concentration
in mathematics. For 2013, Emily A. Brechlin
and Jessica B. Feagles share the award. Emily has earned an overall
GPA of 3.879, combining a major
in Economics with
a major in Mathematics. Jessica has a GPA of 3.774, with a double major
in Economics and Mathematics.
The Paul Tulane College Award in Economics - Charles E. Gaber
and Joseph F. Lustig
This award each year goes
to the outstanding male Economics major. This year the award is shared
by Charles E. Gaber and
Joseph F. Lustig. Charles has earned an overall GPA of 3.932, combining
a major
in Economics with a major in the School of Public Health. Joseph has
earned an overall GPA of 3.923 in his years at Tulane.
The Senior Scholar Award for Research in Economics - Jason
A. Edgar
The Senior Honors Scholar Award is given by the Honors College to a graduating
Economics major with the highest GPA among all graduating Economics majors in
the Honors Program. Jason A. Edgar has an outstanding record in the Honors Program,
and has earned an overall GPA of 3.847 in his years at Tulane University. He
participated in a summer research program for undergraduates in the department,
the Tulane Research Experience for Undergraduates, where he helped research the
accuracy of self-reported pollution data. His creative and original honors thesis
examines the impact of “idiosyncratic
factors,” like weather or tour group size, on the likelihood that a student
admitted to Tulane University will actually decide to attend Tulane after a campus
tour.
