Student awards 2011

  • The J. Ernest Tanner Award for Excellence in Economics - Philip L. Marx
    Philip is the recipient of this award because of the consistent excellence of his course work, which resulted in this year’s highest grade point average for a student in the economics major. He graduated with an overall GPA of 4.0.

  • The Newcomb College Award in Economics (tie) - Taylor Hauck and Nicola Carlson
    Taylor received this award because she earned an overall GPA of 3.957, with an Economics GPA of 4.0. Nicola also had an overall GPA of 3.957, with her Economics GPA coming in at 3.857.

  • The Mathematical Economics Award - Philip L. Marx
    In addition to earning the Tanner Award, Philip earned the highest grade point average among Economics majors with a significant concentration in Mathematics.

  • The Paul Tulane College Award in Economics (tie) - Sean Higgins and Parker Smith
    Sean earned an overall GPA of 3.969 in his years at Tulane, with an Economics GPA of 3.959. He also served in his senior year as president of the Tulane chapter of the Economics Honor Society. Parker earned an overall GPA of 3.956, and his Economics GPA came in at 3.939.

  • The Senior Scholar Award for Research in Economics - Mallorie Smith
    Mallore Smith has written an excellent honors thesis on various aspects of the New Orleans slave market. In her time at Tulane she earned an overall GPA of 3.922, with an Economics GPA of 3.867.
