M.A. Program of Study

This program is designed for two types of students:

1.  Tulane economics undergraduates seeking joint Tulane B.A. and M.A. degrees or B.S. and M.A. degrees in a five-year combined program, and

2.    Students who have already completed a bachelor's program in another discipline or at another university who are seeking a two-year degree in the practical uses of economics.

The program of study consists of 12 graduate courses.  All M.A. students are required to take two core courses:

  • · Econometrics (ECON 623) in year 1
  •   Writing with Data (ECON 698) in year 2
In addition to the core, ten field courses are chosen according to the student's interests from the field courses offered by the Economics Department and drawn from the Master's Elective course list.  With the approval of the Director of Graduate Studies, certain courses taken in other departments or programs may also serve as Master's Electives.
