• Center for Computational Science

The Department of Economics has dedicated computing resources through the Center for Computational Science. There are 5 nodes available to us each with 8 processors and 16 GB of RAM. There is also a 5.5 TB storage array. MATLAB 7.7 is available with a variety of packages, including those for parallel processing. A 5-user license of Stata-MP 10 is also installed on the server. • Set up a faculty website
  
• First, create a directory for your website files
• Next, copy your web pages to the server. Use SFTP (FTP over SSH) on port 22 to pulse.tcs.tulane.edu with your Tulane login and password. Copy the files into the public_html directory.
• The files should be accessible at http://www.tulane.edu/~login.
• Feel free to use and customize our department template.


• Access your office computer (and other campus resources) from off-campus
  
• First, set up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) account. Email Tim Deeves, the Director of Network Services, and ask for a VPN account. The login and password will be the same as your main Tulane account.
• Next, download the VPN client (for Mac, for Windows).
• Install Tulane's VPN client following the instructions: for Mac, for Windows.
• When the VPN is activated, you can use your remote desktop client.


• Use gmail as your default email client
  
• If you don't have a gmail account, create one.
• Let gmail send email from your Tulane account. In gmail, navigate to Settings >> Accounts >> Send mail as >> Add another email address you own. Add your Tulane email address here and follow the authentication instructions.
• Under "Send mail through SMTP server?", choose "Send through tulane.edu SMTP servers". Tulane's SMTP server is smtp.tulane.edu on port 465. Enter your Tulane login, and choose "Always use a secure connection (SSL) when sending mail".
• Forward your Tulane email at the server level to gmail, by following the instructions here.
